Waiting on Wednesday: The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine

 What I'm waiting for...

For some people, silence is a weapon. For Mallory “Mouse” Dodge, it’s a shield. Growing up, she learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime.

Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at public high school. But of all the terrifying and exhilarating scenarios she’s imagined, there’s one she never dreamed of—that she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.

It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with the lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory faces a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants, and the truths that need to be heard.

Why am I waiting on this book? It's been years since I read my last book by JLA, and though I loved the Covenant series, somehow, I don't know how, I got tired of her writing. So, I didn't finish the Lux series and I couldn't finish Cursed. But I feel this one is more like my cup of tea. Who know? Maybe I start loving her books again.

What about you? Have you ever got tired of someone's writing?

WHITE HOT KISS synopsis:  One kiss could be the last.
Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses. Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever. Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul. But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could. But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever.   BITTER SWEET LOVE Synopsis: In a sizzling prequel novella to her new series The Dark Elements, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout draws readers into the extraordinary, irresistible world of Wardens and demons.

Dez wasn't just Jasmine's crush. A gargoyle Warden like Jas, he helped her come to terms with her destiny—fending off demons and maintaining the balance between good and evil. He was her everything…right until the moment he disappeared without a trace. It didn't help that Jas's father had just announced that she and Dez would one day be mated. Hard not to take that personally. And now he's back, three years older, ten times hotter, ready to pick up exactly where they left off. But Jas isn't taking that risk again. Dez has seven days to meet all her conditions and earn back her trust. Seven days filled with terrifying danger and sweet temptation. Seven days to win her heart—or shatter it all over again…

"With her signature flare for combining humor, romance and action, Armentrout weaves a fast-paced read that will have readers' hearts racing in more ways than one. Like Armentrout's previous heroines, Jasmine is fun and full of attitude, while Dez is as snarky as he is sexy. This is a must read for new and old fans alike!" -RT Book Reviews

  The Return - Cover

Amazon | Barnes and Noble | iBooks | Booksamillion

THE RETURN Excerpt:

Shaking my head, I pivoted around and walked down the long hall to my dorm room. As I reached the door, the shiver was at the base of my spine again, dancing its way up until it traveled across my shoulders. My heart turned over heavily and I closed my eyes.
Twice in one day.
 Oh God.
I’d never felt this more than once in any span of several days.
Swallowing hard, I wrapped my fingers around the doorknob, battling the urge to turn and scan the hall, because I knew no one would be there.
Dragging in a deep breath, I opened the door and stepped inside the room. My brows flew up, and I forgot about the feeling as I closed the door behind me.
Erin was sprawled on the floor, palms pressed down on a mat, her spandex-covered behind jutting up toward the sky. She turned her head, peering at me from under her armpit.
Her armpit.
“How in the world do you get your neck to bend like that without killing yourself?” I asked.
“Skills, yo.”
Erin did yoga and meditation religiously, saying it helped merge her yin and yang together or something. She’d once told me she had a hell of a mean streak, and contorting herself into painful-looking positions helped keep “good vibrations” around her. Which was strange, because I’d never seen Erin lose her temper in the two years I’d known her.
Erin unfolded herself from some kind of downward dog or upward pony and grinned at me. “Check under the bed.”
Curious, I dropped my bag and stepped over her legs. Bending down, I lifted the bedspread and my eyes grew to the size of saucers when I spotted the bottle. I snatched it up and clutched it to my chest as I whipped toward her. “José!”
Her grin spread into a smile. “The best boyfriend ever.”

THE RETURN Synopsis:

The Fates are cackling their bony asses off... It's been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they've given him have been violent and bloody--which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He's got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet. Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy's deal might be, but it's a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her. But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all. Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart. Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her. But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

Twin Covers #4

A while ago, after I found a lot of covers alike, I realized some people don't know about them and it was a good idea, or at least funny idea to share those "twin covers" with you.

To be honest, I forgot I had this feature on the blog. Last time I shared the twin covers was on August 17th of last year (check here), but after reading a blog post at Ya Romantics, which is absolutely fantastic, btw, I did remember "Twin Covers" and I found 3 post I had saved on my "proof" blog.
So, today I want to share one cover that left me speechless because, seriously, I thought the covers for The Covenant series by JLA were unique.

See what I'm talking about...

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9680718-half-blood https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11841323-brown-eyes

Brown Eyes is a novella, so it's not a big deal as I once thought.
But I still want to think that the Covenant covers are exclusive, if that's a right way to see it.

Something similar happened when I saw the cover of Sentinel. It reminds me of Looking for Alaska by John Green, but no, they're not the same...

 It's a beautiful day for a war.

Oh my gods!! I really didn't want to say goodbye to this series! Seriously, the Covenant books are my favorites by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I loved every one of them and I’ll never forget them.
I laughed with these characters, I cried with them, I blush with them, and I went to bed many, many times thinking about them.
This ending was breathtakingly beautiful! After a lot of ending series books that I read in 2013, there’s no doubt that Sentinel is one of the most perfect and awesome endings ever!
It’s the kind of bittersweet ending that leaves you crying and laughing at the same time, because it’s just too good to be true!
Alex’s probably my favorite heroine of all of the time. She’s not just brave and selfless, but she’s so funny, adorable and… real! I love Alex so very much and I’m so sad for all the things she had to go through until the end.
I never was a major fan of Aiden, yes, I liked him, I enjoyed reading about him but I never loved him until Sentinel, Aiden was a sweetheart, a badass, one of the best male characters I’ve read.
This leads me to Seth… oh gods! Seth has been my favorite character of this series since I read Pure. I loved Seth and I’M SO GLAD that the author redeems himself and gave him an important role in Sentinel.I would have cried like crazy when I finished this book if I shadn't known that Seth will have his own series. I cannot wait for it. I need more Seth and I need a lot more of this world.

The plot, the story line, the writing, every single thing of Sentinel was absolutely perfect. The titans, the action, the villains, every role was well played.
Jennifer L. Armentrout proves that she not just writes fast, but she writes like a freaking genius.
I wish this book was longer, because I didn’t want it to end.
I will miss Alex, Aiden, Seth, Deacon, Luke, Apollo… ok, I’ll miss them all, even Hades.
I hope I can see them again in The Return.
Sentinel was the perfect ending for such a perfect series like the Covenant.

“He was my strength when I needed him to be, my friend when I needed someone to talk me down, my equal in a world where by law I would always be less than him, and honest to gods, he was the love of my life.”

EXCERPT:

Moving lightning fast, Dez shifted and I was suddenly underneath him. His arms were on either side of my head, caging me in. Our bodies didn’t touch, but I felt him to the tips of my toes anyway.
The teasing grin disappeared when I dragged in a deep breath and my chest brushed his. Everything changed in an instant. The playful mood faded, replaced by primal heaviness. Our gazes collided and locked. Neither of us moved. His closeness sent a series of shivers skittering across my skin and made it hard to take slow, even breaths. My body tensed when his gaze dropped to my mouth.
He tilted his head to the side. “I… I honestly have no idea what we were talking about.”
                “Good. Neither do I.”
He shifted his weight onto one arm, bring him closer. “Have you enjoyed your trip so far?”
“Yes.” I felt as if I couldn’t get enough air into my lungs.
“Good.” He lowered his head. His breath was minty as it moved across my cheek and then my lips. “I’m glad.”
I wasn’t really following the conversation and I wasn’t sure that he was fully aware of what was coming out of his mouth. I searched my hazy brain for something to say and wet my lips. I-
The sound that came out of Dez’s chest rumbled through me. A stuttered heartbeat passed and then his lips were on mine. There was nothing slow about this kiss. It scorched my skin and caused my body to stretch tight like a bowstring. The kiss deepened, spinning my senses. I shuddered when his hand curved over my shoulder and drifted down to my waist, his long fingers spreading out under the hem of my shirt, grazing the bare skin of my stomach.
I gasped, floored by the raw sensations pounding through my blood. My skin felt as if I was about to phase. Maybe I was.
“Jasmine,” he whispered, the word falling against my lips, and then his body was pressing mine into the mattress, heavy, sweet and hard.

Book review: Apollyon by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Apollyon (Covenant #4)
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Pages: 360
Goodreads AVG Rating (actual): 4.57
Source: ARC provided by Spencer Hill Press
Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.
Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.
The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.
Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself.

My feelings:
First of all. My HUGE thanks to the people at Spencer Hill Press for the chance to review this book to my friend and co-blogger Marden and I. We can even describe how grateful we are.
Isn't enough to say that I screamed like a crazy when the copy arrived? No?
Okay, let me tell you that when you wait for a book like this, there is nothing more important than devour it as soon as you can. So, when I opened Apollyon, I felt scared, I felt excited, I felt happy and sad because 360 pages is not enough for a series you love that much.
And right after I finished it I was feeling exactly the same. Scared: because I don't know was is going to happen in Sentinel. Excited: because the ending was THAT awesome. Happy: because my worst fear don't came true. Sad: because I have to wait a long time to finally read the last one of the Covenant books.

The Plot:
Alex's finally the Apollyon, so what's going to happen next? JLA did a great job creating a plot completely different from what most of us thought it might happen. Yes, Alex is connected to Seth, but that fact is not the focus in the story, the background story is so much better than that. It goes deeper, and if we really put attention we can realize that it tells us a bit of what we can expect for Sentinel.
The gods in the book were as good as the ones we already met. And for gods' sake!! That god that appears at the end of the book with leave you mouth dropped!

The characters:
The characters are not the same from the ones we met in Half blood. They're better, more mature, surprisingly strong and unique.
Alex is not more a stubborn girls, is not more that kid that act without thinking. She is stronger than before, she has grown in a way that she puts her heart in everything she do. She is the kind of heroine from the epic stories with a funny and special touch of modernism.
Aiden is the sweetest thing alive! I might not been Team Aiden, but I really admire him, I think he is just as strong as Alex, and so swoon-worthy that he deserves all the love from the readers.
Seth is not much in this book. I mean, of course, she is connected to Alex, so Alex is able to talk with him, to feel him, and give us some awesome conversations maybe awesome just for me, but hell! they were. That is one of the things that made me happy about Apollyon, that JLA gave us hope for him.
Deacon: Honestly? Deacon is so freaking awesome!!!!

The romance:
I not the kind of girl that melts with a romance like this, or maybe it was because I don't love Aiden that much, but the romance is in Apollyon is all that you can expect between a couple that love each other so deeply. Every love scene, every word, every whisper, all is perfect. Above everything, the author also did a great job creating not just a well constructed love story, but also some breath-taking moments.

The ending:
The ending was the best part of the book! As it's usual in JLA books, the ending are powerful, a mix between a cliffhanger and the perfect wrap up.
Is there an awesome battle? Indeed!
Did someone die? Of course!
Are we going to cry? Hopefully!

Final thoughts:
The covenant series has a set of books very complete. From the first book to the actual the development is perfect and JLA's writing is beautiful and addictive.
Apollyon in not the exception. Is mind-blowing action. An absorbing plot, heart-melting moments. Exquisite dialogues And the page turner writing of Jennifer L. Armentrout. Want more? Then read Apollyon to reach a little piece of book heaven.

Rock on! The author of November: Jennifer L. Armentrout (Mini-Interview!)

Welcome to the celebration of my favorite books of this year.
Each day, I will be featuring my favorite book and author of each month. And at the end of this celebration you'll have the chance to win a hardback copy of a book by one of my favorite authors.
Most of reader agreed that the  author of this year was the awesome Jennifer L. Armentrout with all her books published in this year. Plus, all those 5 stars reviews for her writing.
Of course, it was impossible that I didn't have at least one book by her in this celebration.
This year I read Pure, Onyx and Deity; and bought Cursed and Opal, but my very favorite was the super awesome Covenant book #3 : Deity. That made me pick JLA as my favorite author of November.

USA Today Bestselling Author Jennifer L. Armentrout Lives in West Virginia.
All the rumors you heard about her state aren’t true.
Well, mostly. When she's not hard at work writing, she spends her time, reading, working out, watching zombie movies, and pretending to write.
She is the author of the Covenant Series (Spencer Hill Press), the Lux Series (Entangled Teen), Don't Look Back (Disney/Hyperion) and a yet untitled novel (Disney/Hyperion).
Jennifer also writes adult romance under the pen name J. Lynn

Jenn was so kind by answering some of the common questions I always want to ask the authors. You know, she was really busy, but took the time to give me a mini-interview.

And here you are.

Thanks to JLA!

1. As an author, I think you put a lot of your own feelings in the lines you’re writing. How do you feel when you’re creating those wonderful stories?

You become very attached to the story and characters, and in a way,  they are real to you. So a lot of feelings are invested. I hope people get 'feels' when they read a novel of mine. I try to think of how I would feel in the situation, etc.

2. Do you write with a playlist?

I think I'm the only author who doesn't keep a playlist

3. I am a freaky, obsessive, perfectionist, cover lover. And I really LOVE all the covers of your book, but specially The Covenants’ ones. Do you think they match with the history?

Yes! The covers are so unique and standout. The publisher did a great job with, especially since the flowers do come up in the books.

4. I f you could put 2 of your characters in a scene with other 2 character from another book, which those characters could be?

Alex from Covenant Series and Daemon from the Lux Series in a training room on Deity Island. THAT should be interesting.

5. You are now one of the most popular authors in the blog-o-sphere, because of your great books. Why would you recommend them? (not as an author, but as a reader).

Aw thanks! To be honest, I'm terrible at telling people why they should read my books. I guess I'd recommend them because they're pure brain candy--romance, action, mystery, romance... See? I suck at this.
