What's New? Pacifica by Kristen Simmons

Hi there! I hope you had a great weekend. My What's New? for today is Kristen Simmons' new book PACIFICA. The only book by this author I read is Article 5 and while I didn't finish the series, I really liked it, and I've heard amazing things about her standalones.
Check it out and make sure to add it to your TBR!

Expected publication: March 6th 2018 by Tor Teen

Pacifica, an all-new stand-alone, near-future adventure from the critically acclaimed author of Article 5 and Metaltown.
Marin is cosario royalty, a pirate like her father and his father before him. Sailing the ocean to chase adventure is in her blood. But these days no one cares that the island town her people call home is named after her grandfather. They have a new leader, one who promises an end to their hunger – and one who thinks that girls are meant for the kitchen or the brothel. Marin knows she's meant for more than that, and with the sudden influx of weapons on the island, and rumors of a pending deal with the enemy oil nation in her wake, she knows a big score to gain the council's favor is the only way to save her people, and herself.

Ross lives a life of privilege. As the president's son he wants for nothing, but he longs for a life of adventure. On a dare, he convinces his best friend Adam to sneak out to the Docks, the site of local race riots between the poor Shorlings and the upper class. But when Adam is arrested along with the other Shorlings, and not even the president is willing to find him, Ross finds himself taking matters into his own hands. He journeys back into the Docks, ready to make deals with anyone, even a beautiful pirate, if it means Adam's safe return.

When Marin and Ross meet in dangerous Shoreling territory he sees a way to get his friend back and she sees her ticket home. The ransom a president’s son would command could feed her people for years and restore her family’s legacy. But somewhere in the middle of the ocean, Marin must decide if her heart can handle handing over the only person who has ever seen her as more than a pirate.

Some Books Ago: Poison Princess (The Arcana Chronicles #1) by Kresley Cole

Some Books Ago is a shout out to all those books published some years ago. I don't want you to forget them!

GUYS! This book is so freaking awesome! I don't understand why I didn't read the second book because I loved Poison Princess so much! It was dark and sexy and creepy! I wrote in my mini-review that it was like Mara Dyer and Angenfall... though I don't remember now. I just bough the Endless Knight and I hope I can read it soon.

Poison Princess was published on October 2nd 2012 by Simon & Schuster

Summary:

She could save the world—or destroy it.

Sixteen-year-old Evangeline "Evie" Greene leads a charmed life, until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they're still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.
But she can't do either alone.

With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can't totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?
Who can Evie trust?

As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it's not always clear who is on which side.

*And yes, that's the old cover because I love it. Here's the new one.

Mini-Review: Sunrise by Mike Mullin

Sunrise
Series: Ahsfall #3
Author: Mike Mullin
Pages: 466
Order it: Amazon/ B&N/ TBD
My rating: 4.5 stars
Summary:
The Yellowstone supervolcano nearly wiped out the human race. Now, almost a year after the eruption, the survivors seem determined to finish the job. Communities wage war on each other, gangs of cannibals roam the countryside, and what little government survived the eruption has collapsed completely. The ham radio has gone silent. Sickness, cold, and starvation are the survivors' constant companions. When it becomes apparent that their home is no longer safe and adults are not facing the stark realities, Alex and Darla must create a community that can survive the ongoing disaster, an almost impossible task requiring even more guts and more smarts than ever — and unthinkable sacrifice. If they fail . . . they, their loved ones, and the few remaining survivors will perish. This epic finale has the heart of Ashfall, the action of Ashen Winter, and a depth all its own, examining questions of responsibility and bravery, civilization and society, illuminated by the story of an unshakable love that transcends a post-apocalyptic world and even life itself.

My thoughts

It’s always hard to say goodbye to your favorite series. That’s why it took me so long to read Sunrise.
I had the chance to read the eARC, but I didn’t... because I didn’t want to say goodbye yet.
But I finally forced myself to do it, and I’m happy I did because it was better than I expected.
Sunrise was the perfect ending for this series. It was hopeful and the development of the plot was just as great as I expected.
Alex and Darla are still one of my favorite couples, they’re friends, they’re partners, and they love each other in a very mature way.
I don’t really love the secondary characters. I only cared about Alex and Darla, the world-building and the writing. Anyway, each character was different and well created.
Mike Mullin created a perfect world after the events of Ashfall.

It was a strong conclusion, a satisfying ending. After all the brutally there’s always the glimmer of hope about a long term future.
I also loved how realistic the book was about the feelings. The main characters were too young when it all started, we come to see how the tragedy affect them, how sad is to be a pillar, to try to survive every day and not just to be a teenager.
Darla is one of the strongest girls I ever read. Sometimes I feel like she was the strongest character in the series. She was a truly heroine.

This was a hard read. And these series are an action packed ride. Cruel, brutal and realistic.
Sunrise is the perfect ending. Great plot, great characters, a fast passed read. Mike Mullin created an emotional roller-coaster. A perfectly written story and one of the best post-apocalyptical books of these days.
