Every Tuesday I post about the new books I discover. So, I wanted to give a shout out to all those books published some years ago. I don't want to you to forget them!
Hi!
Today in
Some Books Ago, let me remember you about Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel.
I have
no idea why I never read this book when it came out. I have it, I heard it was
good, but I never had the chance to read it.
Have you?
If not, maybe this is your time to try it.
Check it out!
Dearly, Departed was published on
October 18th 2011
by Del Rey
Summary:
Love conquers all, so they say. But can Cupid’s arrow pierce the hearts of the living and the dead - or rather, the undead? Can a proper young Victorian lady find true love in the arms of a dashing zombie?
In Dearly, Departed, romance meets walking-dead thriller, spawning a madly imaginative novel of rip-roaring adventure, spine-tingling suspense, and macabre comedy that forever redefines the concept of undying love.
Love conquers all, so they say. But can Cupid’s arrow pierce the hearts of the living and the dead - or rather, the undead? Can a proper young Victorian lady find true love in the arms of a dashing zombie?
The
year is 2195. The place is New Victoria - a high-tech nation modeled on
the manners, mores, and fashions of an antique era. A teenager in high
society, Nora Dearly is far more interested in military history and her
country’s political unrest than in tea parties and debutante balls. But
after her beloved parents die, Nora is left at the mercy of her
domineering aunt, a social-climbing spendthrift who has squandered the
family fortune and now plans to marry her niece off for money. For Nora,
no fate could be more horrible - until she’s nearly kidnapped by an
army of walking corpses.
But fate is just getting started with Nora. Catapulted from her world of drawing-room civility, she’s suddenly gunning down ravenous zombies alongside mysterious black-clad commandos and confronting “The Laz,” a fatal virus that raises the dead - and hell along with them. Hardly ideal circumstances. Then Nora meets Bram Griswold, a young soldier who is brave, handsome, noble . . . and dead. But as is the case with the rest of his special undead unit, luck and modern science have enabled Bram to hold on to his mind, his manners, and his body parts. And when his bond of trust with Nora turns to tenderness, there’s no turning back. Eventually, they know, the disease will win, separating the star-crossed lovers forever. But until then, beating or not, their hearts will have what they desire.

Oooo, I love this feature! Some Books Ago is such a great idea. I remember seeing this book around, when it first published, and I was interested. But I never got around to borrowing it from the library. It's still on my TBR though. :D
ReplyDeleteLovely post, Lis!
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
Thanks! I hope you have the chance to read it someday.
DeleteGreat idea for a feature! I read this one and really liked it, very unique take on zombies and regency-like era and all! I started the sequel but lost interest... maybe I'll go back to it and finish it!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed this one! I lost interest in a few books after the first one, so I know what it feels. Maybe next time will be better!
DeleteThis one is on my TBR because even though I heard about it absolutely AGES ago I’ve never had the chance to pick it up. Sounds interesting though–takes me back to the days when the trend was normal girls falling for paranormal guys, haha. Happy reading and great pick!!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a long time but that trend was a great thing!
DeleteI'm not a zombie fan, but I've heard good things about this - hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by! Jen @ YA Romantics
Thanks, Jen! I'm not a zombie fan either, but I read a few that I loved.
