Uses for boys
Anna remembers a time before boys, when she was little and everything made sense. When she and her mom were a family, just the two of them against the world. But now her mom is gone most of the time, chasing the next marriage, bringing home the next stepfather. Anna is left on her own—until she discovers that she can make boys her family. From Desmond to Joey, Todd to Sam, Anna learns that if you give boys what they want, you can get what you need. But the price is high—the other kids make fun of her; the girls call her a slut. Anna's new friend, Toy, seems to have found a way around the loneliness, but Toy has her own secrets that even Anna can't know.

Then comes Sam. When Anna actually meets a boy who is more than just useful, whose family eats dinner together, laughs, and tells stories, the truth about love becomes clear. And she finally learns how it feels to have something to lose—and something to offer. Real, shocking, uplifting, and stunningly lyrical,  Uses for Boys  is a story of breaking down and growing up.

My POV.

Oh man! To start I’m going to say that this isn’t the kind of review I’m doing the last days, but I’m so shocked, so stunned by the reality of this book that I can’t write the things I normally do.
Uses for boys is the most tragic and realistic book I’ve ever read.  It touched me and almost brought me to tears just thinking about Anna, whose name is the same of an old best friend, who was living the same situation at that same age.
So, read the story of MY friends in the words of THAT Anna was so sad and hurtful! It was like I was lying in that bed just listening was my friend was talking to me, trying to give her hope and feeling this terrible hole in my chest.
Yes, I admit that the book wasn’t perfect, the writing style is not for everyone, not every reader will enjoy it, but it was good to me. Easy to read… fast.
~Sighs~ honestly I don’t know what to said. I WILL write a better review when I stop feeling this way, when I stop watching a part of my life from another POV.

It is so sad to read the experience of a life this way, of an abandoned girl, a mother absent, but this is how real life is. I’m glad that the author wrote something about it. Because life is not a faerie tale, and stories are to be told.

So, I also have read critics about the cover. It fooled me as well. Though I didn’t see like a sparkly-love story, I saw it as a girl using a boy to repair her lights… yeah, which fooled also.
Uses for boys was a great title. But Anna didn’t go using boys to make her life easy, she didn’t even know the difference between love and just sex… and hell, the book had a lot of sex! But teens have sex, that’s really normal, what wasn’t normal is that this topic was classified like YA, maybe it’d better If the publisher put it like “New adult” …. Or maybe not, who am I to say it!

The ending wasn’t what I expected, made me angry and so not happy, but it was good. Realistic more than anything.
So, if you’re looking for a crude, realistic book you’ll probably enjoy this one, but if you’re a hard-core reader, very critic and detailed, then… this book isn’t the right decision for you.
